Transcript: Aldous Huxley – “The Ultimate Revolution”, March 20, 1962
“It seems to me that the nature of the ultimate revolution with which we are now faced is precisely this, that we are in process of developing a whole series of techniques which will enable the controlling oligarchy, who have always existed and presumably always will exist, to get people actually to love their servitude. This seems to me the ultimate malevolent revolution… This is a problem which has interested me for many years and about which I wrote, 30 years ago, a fable Brave New World which is essentially the account of a society making use of all the devices at that time available and some of the devices which I imagined to be possible, making use of them in order to, first of all, to standardize the population, to iron out inconvenient human differences, to create, so to say, mass produced models of human beings arranged in some kind of a scientific caste system. Since then I have continued to be extremely interested in this problem and I have noticed with increasing dismay that a number of the predictions which were purely fantastic when I made them 30 years ago have come true or seem in process of coming true. A number of techniques about which I talked seem to be here already, and that there seems to be a general movement in the direction of this kind of ultimate revolution, this method of control by which people can be made to enjoy a state of affairs which by any decent standard they ought not to enjoy. I mean the enjoyment of servitude.”
Aldous Huxley is a remote relative of Charles Darwin, whose work he mentions in this speech. His brother Julian Huxley was the first secretary general of the UNESCO. Both the Huxley brothers were staunch eugenicists. After the crimes of the Nazis had totally discredited the pseudo-science of eugenics, it was resumed under terms like “Transhumanism” and “Bio Ethics” and is still being practiced today.

„Was niemand zu bemerken schien, war die sich immer weiter ausbreitende Kluft zwischen Regierungen und den Menschen… Jeder Schritt war so winzig, so belanglos, so plausibel gerechtfertigt oder gelegentlich auch ‚bereut‘, dass auf täglicher Basis niemand verstand, was das Ganze im Prinzip bedeuten sollte, und wohin all diese ‚winzigen Maßnahmen‘ eines Tages führen würden. Auf täglicher Basis verstand es keiner, genausowenig wie ein Bauer in seinem Feld sein Getreide von einem Tag auf den nächsten wachsen sieht. Jede Handlung ist aber schlimmer als die letzte, doch nur ein wenig schlimmer. Du wartest auf die nächste, und nächste, und nächste. Du wartest auf das ganz große schockierende Ereignis und denkst, dass die Anderen dich bei deinem Widerstand irgendwie unterstützen werden, wenn solch ein Schock kommt.“
„Du möchtest nicht im Alleingang etwas unternehmen; nicht einmal darüber reden… Du möchtest dich nicht von deinem Pfad entfernen, um Probleme zu machen… Aber das große schockierende Ereignis, wo sich Zehn- oder sogar Hunderttausende dir anschließen werden, kommt niemals. Das ist die Schwierigkeit. Die äußerlichen Formen sind alle vorhanden, alle unberührt, alle beruhigend: die Häuser, die Geschäfte, die Mahlzeiten, die Besuche, die Konzerte, das Kino, die Ferien. Aber der Geist, den du niemals bemerkt hast, weil du ein Leben lang den Fehler gemacht hast, dich mit den äußerlichen Formen zu identifizieren, hat sich verändert. Nun lebst du in einer Welt bestehend aus Hass und Furcht, und die Leute, die hassen und fürchten, wissen nicht einmal selbst, dass, wenn jeder transformiert ist, keiner transformiert ist… Du hast Dinge akzeptiert, die du vor fünf Jahren nicht akzeptiert hättest; oder vor einem Jahr; Dinge, die sich dein Vater niemals hätte vorstellen können.“
